Keep the Faith

It’s incredible to me how people can keep their faith when things get bad. True, bad is relative, and what’s bad for one is not so bad for another. But those people who are always up, always positive and always optimistic are truly gifted and I hope they know it. Oh wait, they probably do – I just wish that they would spread it around and share it with those who need it.

Don Cornelius wished us love, peace and SOOOUUUL every Saturday morning on Soul Train. He gave the stage to some of the best musicians of all time: Aretha Franklin, the mighty Ojays, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Michael Jackson and hundreds of others. Yet, with all that music stirring his soul, he still found no recourse, no way out of his physical or spiritual depression and killed himself yesterday – at gunpoint. You’ve got to be at the depths of despair without any hope or faith at all, to put a gun to your own head and pull the trigger. May Don’s spirit rest in peace.

On his radio show this morning, Steve Harvey said that for Don to take his own life that he must have lost his faith. I agree with him when he said that the saddest of all things is to lose faith. Faith that you can make it through, faith in whomever you call God, faith that you’ve got the strength to ask for help and that help will come. Faith ultimately is what lets you lay your head down at night and dream about tomorrow. You can’t lose faith – without it you’ve got nothing.

  1. Reminds me of my soon-to-be 90 year old uncle, who has always signed any card or note with "Keep the Faith". It's his signature, and I do believe it is what has given his life such longevity and fulfillment. Thanks for yet another great post Michelle!

  2. I just have to say this, it's not the God of your choice. There is only one God! His name is Jehova, Elohim,Yawah, the God of Abraham , Jacob and Joseph. He is a 3 person God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit but just one.
This is why so many folks believing in the others fall short. Or should I say they will be surprised at the end. God gave us all freedom of choice. What a great God to give us this freedom. By the way, He doesn't need any help, no rabitts foot, no eye hanging and no bamboo plant, etc. He is God all by Himself. So throw away all those idols, stop all those superstitious ways, and know your Creator. Don't listen to anyon, including me. Go search, ask in meditation and He will reveal Himself to you.
I ask, where were his friends and family? The signs had to be there for them to see. Did no one care enough to take time out of there busy schedules to notice.
Most people when falling into the mirey pit of depression change their ways, silence, not going out, saying no to your invites.so who have you not heard from lately? Make some calls, tell someone how much you miss them. Visit someone today. Send a "real" card. In the mail. Keeping it real in Freeport.
